Tongwei commences operation for animal feed facility in Vietnam
Tongwei, one of China's 100 largest private firms, commences operation for an animal feed facility on September 8, with an investment of US$10 million in Vietnam's northern province of Hai Duon.
The plant, covering three hectares in Cam Giang district, is designed to annually produce 200,000 tonnes of feed for pigs and poultry.
Its high-quality products will be sold domestically, said Tongwei's General Director Tang Ming.
Vietnam's animal husbandry consumes around 29 million tonnes of animal feed every year. Of the volume, only over 10 million tonnes are produced industrially.
Animal feed prices have been rising sharply in the past few months, raising production costs for farmers amid the widespread of animal diseases.
Le Ba Lich, chairman of the Vietnamese Association of Animal Feed (VFA) said the current price hike is due to the fact that foreign companies account for up to 65% of the animal feed production market in Vietnam and there are no governmental agencies to monitor these businesses.
